There is no single story that could possibly demonstrate the meaningful impact Kevin consistently makes in the lives of hospice patients and their families. He has been recognized repeatedly by his peers for his attention and dedication to achieving effective symptom management, empathy, compassion, kindness, patience and the intelligence with which he educates and provides care.
The nature of Kevin's role as a "Crisis RN" places him into situations where he is not familiar with the patient or their specific needs; day-to-day care is managed by Primary Case Management RNs and an interdisciplinary team, including LPNs, Chaplains, Social Workers, and CNAs, Critical thinking is essential in assessing and planning for the best management of each patient and scenario, and he delivers this every single time!

I want to thank Kevin for being an advocate for my patient and for going above and beyond to ensure he got the care he was deserving of.

A Nursing Home Social Worker wanted to make me aware of one of the best out there, Kevin. Her father lived in a CBRF and was declining. This family member had been with the patient for a long time and was exhausted. Kevin was very compassionate and empathetic and encouraged her to go home and rest as he assured her that he would get her father's symptoms under control.

While attending a death visit, the family shared that they were forever grateful for the care and compassion Kevin showed in his visit the previous day. He told them he would stay until the patient was comfortable and he did! He provided the facility with everything they needed and the family with all the support they needed to make their journey as smooth as it possibly could have been.

During an individual counseling session with a bereaved, they mentioned how compassionate, kind and diligent Kevin was as he cared for their mom at the end of her life. Kevin, the quality care you provide for patients and families eases their grief journey and is such a gift to them!

In addition to direct patient care, Kevin also precepts new hires, including brand-new RNs. He works just as hard to make them feel comfortable and welcomed and shares his knowledge and experience freely. Most nurses are great and provide quality patient care. Others, like Kevin, are extraordinary, and personify the very essence of what it means to proudly carry the title, "Registered Nurse". Our organization, patients, and families are blessed by his talents. While I doubt Kevin would ever consider himself to receive this DAISY Award, I am truly proud to nominate him!
