He showed her so much care and empathy and clearly had so much respect for human dignity.
My mother was admitted into the Cardiac ICU. My mom was scared, frustrated, and suffering by time she was transferred to ICU because of cardiac and breathing issues that were causing her to feel worse. She needed an emergency procedure to drain the fluid around her heart and from her lungs.
When my mom was transferred into the cardiac ICU, we were so fortunate to get Kevin as our nurse. He immediately noticed how my mom was feeling and helped calm her and reassure my brother and me. He was so kind, caring, and empathic. He made my mom feel safe. He made me, as the daughter, feel like my mom was finally in good hands. He was so great at explaining everything that they were doing to my mom, which was all she wanted and he went above and beyond to answer our questions and explain things to my brother and me. What a world of difference that made.
Kevin has the gift of human touch, which is so important and rare, especially in today’s impersonal world—crucial when a person is in distress. He had the ability to read the room and was incredible with communication skills. He went above and beyond for not only my mom but also scared family members.
For the first time, I felt like I could stop worrying for a night. I had so much confidence in Kevin’s clinical skills and ability. And he was not only clinically competent but so caring. He even advocated on my mom’s behalf! He cared so much! He showed her so much care and empathy and clearly had so much respect for human dignity. He made her feel like she mattered, which you don’t always see when it comes to elderly patients. What a beautiful human being! Saint Al's is very lucky to have a nurse like him working for them. If only all nurses could be more like him, what an incredible healthcare system we would have.
Kevin deserves recognition for all he did not only for my mom, but for his other patients who are so blessed to have him as their nurse.
Unfortunately, my mom ended up passing away after fighting for her life, the worst day of my life. She was tired and had had enough. Heaven gained a very special angel.
But I believe nurses like Kevin are definitely angels here on Earth caring for others, and my mom was very fortunate to be under his care.
