I would like to recognize the ICU Director for her extraordinary compassion, presence, and dedication shown during the care of my dad during his final days. My dad was critically ill and had a balloon pump to keep him alive. What we did not expect, but will never forget, was the level of personal involvement and humanity demonstrated by someone whose role typically does not include providing care.

Day by day, Kay came in early and left late to ensure my dad was taken care of. Kay was consistently present at the bedside. She took the time to explain what was happening in clear, honest, and compassionate terms, ensuring our family understood each step of the care.

In moments of overwhelming fear and grief, Kay remained focused, adjusting medications and communication with the Doctor. Kay never rushed us, never made us feel like a burden, and always treated our family with respect.

When it became clear that my dad would not recover, Kay showed profound empathy. During the late hours on Friday, she assisted with his final bath while fully dressed in her nice attire. Her presence brought comfort during the most painful moments of our lives.

Her leadership wasn't just seen but felt. Kay's willingness to step outside of her role speaks volumes about her character and commitment to patient care. Kay showed the true spirit of nursing by combining clinical expertise, teamwork, and genuine compassion.
