She took it upon herself to plan and organize a baby shower in the hospital.
I want to recognize Kiahnna Jackson for the extraordinary compassion she demonstrated in caring for one of Labor and Deliveries long term obstetric patients. The patient had been hospitalized for a prolonged period due to complications with her pregnancy. As the days turned into weeks, the emotional weight on her grew heavier. Separated from the comfort of home, family, and the joyful preparations most parents get to experience during pregnancy. It was clear she was struggling not just physically, but emotionally. That's when Kiahnna went far beyond the call of duty.
Understanding that this mother was missing out on a deeply meaningful milestone, she took it upon herself to plan and organize a baby shower in the hospital. She collaborated with staff who aided in the collection of donations, gifts, and decorations to create a joyful, safe, and loving environment for the baby shower on her day off. The result was nothing short of extraordinary. The patient was overwhelmed with emotion, not just from the surprise itself, but from the deep sense of care and belonging she must have felt. That moment helped her restore a sense of normalcy and reminded her she wasn't alone.
This act of kindness and compassion reminds us all what nursing truly is: the art of healing, not just bodies, but hearts as well. This act may not be charted in any medical record, but the impact will be remembered for a lifetime. Kiahnna Jackson embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award. She is a nurse who not only treats conditions but transforms lives with kindness, creativity, and heart. She is the kind of caregiver who makes our profession proud.
