Kiara’s clinical skill and, most notably, her compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model.

During a recent clinical experience, Kiara was assigned to a patient who became increasingly confused and disoriented throughout the shift. She demonstrated outstanding compassion at the bedside and consistently put her patient first.

Each time the bed alarm sounded, Kiara responded immediately, often arriving before anyone else, to ensure his safety and reoriented him gently and repeatedly, speaking with patience and offering reassurance. Despite the frequency of redirection required, she never appeared frustrated. Instead, she treated him with dignity, respect, and unwavering kindness, recognizing that confusion can be frightening and isolating for patients. Her attentiveness reduced his anxiety and helped maintain his safety.

Kiara went above and beyond to serve as a voice for her patients’ needs. She carefully monitored subtle changes in his level of confusion and promptly communicated her concerns to the nursing team. She asked thoughtful questions, sought guidance appropriately, and ensured that her patient’s condition was taken seriously.

Her advocacy extended beyond basic task completion; she demonstrated clinical awareness and the courage to speak up when something did not seem right, always prioritizing the patient’s well-being.

Kiara was an extraordinary team member who demonstrated impressive clinical skills for a student nurse. Her vigilance and professionalism were recognized by the unit staff and director, who independently praised the excellent care she provided and how she seamlessly integrated into the team and exemplified leadership through her actions.
