Their joyful, smiling personalities and encouraging words kept me cheered up as I went through tough times.
Recovering from an open heart surgery is a very slow, physically, and emotionally draining process. My connection with the two cardiac rehab nurses, Kim Bouvia and Cassie Stahl, began about two months after my Surgery in mid-December of last year. They take care of patients recovering from heart issues at the Cardiac Rehab unit at Willamette Valley Medical Center. These two nurses are not just very good at their jobs, they have the heart to see everyone in their care experience achieve maximum recovery possible. People like me have just gone through the toughest time of their lives. These nurses know how important joyful encouragement is necessary for such recovery. They skillfully encourage the necessary progressive physical exercises. Their joyful, smiling personalities and encouraging words kept me cheered up as I went through tough times. There was a time when I was turned down for a job I needed. Their response was simply to engage in a conversation with me that deflected my disappointment in such a way that made me feel like I was part of a family that was always supportive. They always greet me and others with great, engaging smiles. Their caring professionalism assures me that I am getting the best care possible. They make me feel worthwhile and make cardio rehab fun. I believe that the rehab from an open heart surgery is just as important as the surgery itself. I cannot imagine two better people to care for people in my situation. These nurses have not only become good friends, but they are like family.
