A patient of Kim’s has a long history of stasis ulcers and was admitted to the hospital and she was aware the dressing has not been changed in the home because she knew that it may be removed in the hospital for examination. Kim went to the hospital while the patient was still in the ER and checked with staff to see if they needed to see the wounds and changed the dressing in the ER.
Later on in the week she knew the patient was going to a long term care facility, she called to see if the dressing had been changed – they had not done it, so she again communicated with the staff on the unit and went to the hospital and changed the dressing for the patient.
This was all done on her own time, this is certainly above and beyond!
