My daughter Sadie was born in our local hospital and had to be resuscitated for 20 minutes. Our whole world came crashing down, and what was supposed to be the most amazing moment of our lives became the scariest.
My beautiful girl was transferred by Neonatal Ambulance to Coventry and Warwickshire Neonatal Unit and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. Every single nurse in this unit is absolutely incredible, and the care we received during our time there was nothing short of a miracle.
On day two of being in the unit, we met the amazing Kim. When our world felt so scary, Kim was a smiling face that offered us warmth and guidance.
She got us involved in looking after our baby girl, and for the first time since I gave birth to her, I felt like I got to be her mummy. Kim talked us through all of her care. She showed us how to change her nappy around her wires and let us do this. She asked us to give our baby a little massage.
She requested the consultant for any questions we had about our baby. Kim pointed us to the feeding team to rent a pump and spent her time making sure I was confident in how to use my breast pump.
Kim even rang down to Maternity Triage and got me seen quickly, as I had not been checked at my previous hospital after giving birth.
Kim did nothing short of changing our lives the day we met her. In a situation that was so frightening for us, Kim guided us through the day and made us feel like our baby girl's parents again.
Days later, as we were getting ready to transfer our girl back to our local hospital, Kim came in to say goodbye to us, which encapsulates her caring nature.
Thank you for everything you have done for us during our time on the Neonatal ward. We were so lucky to have the team care for our baby girl.
