I would like to acknowledge the extraordinary treatment, caring and compassion shown to me and my family through my fathers' ED experience and his death. He was in a motor vehicle accident and air life flight to Mercy from near Wakefield NE and when I called the ED a nurse named Kim Coy helped me through. She asked the Physician to talk with me. My mother was in the Pender Hospital from the same accident and I live 7 hours away so while driving I was getting updates by phone. Kim was my life line in that 1 -2 hours giving me updates talking with my Aunt who came to the hospital to be with my Dad. When Doctor told me what was happening, my heart broke. I asked to talk to him and although he was not responsive Doctor handed the phone to Kim to put by my Dad's ear so I could tell him how much he was loved and still is. This was a special act of compassion and I work in healthcare so I am proud when I witness these acts of kindness. Kim continued to keep me posted and called me to let me know my Dad was gone. So hard to take in the car, but I made it through. I wrote this the day after the funeral. My Aunt, who was in the ED with my father said that Kim was a very special person. Please acknowledge her service. I will be writing a personal note to her as well. I also appreciated the Doctors candor in letting me know all the details. Please bestow an honor Kim for her incredible compassion and kindness shown me and my family and how she treated my Father as and after he passed.
