E had no clothes to take with her to Maggie Valley Nursing home, but some angel named Kim made sure she had some soft comfortable pajamas.
I had the pleasure of having Kim J. as my nurse on the 5th floor while in the hospital. This was not my family's first time having contact with her. She didn't know that while providing care to me. I wanted to witness her nursing talents, skills, and personality while being a patient instead of a family member.
I never had the honor of meeting Kim while she took care of my sister-in-law, I just spoke with her on the phone. My sister-in-law E had breast cancer and became very attached to Kim during her stay at Haywood. Kim would stop and get her Big Macs and chocolate shakes and encourage her to eat. From what other nurses told me she would do this 2-3 times a week during her stay. She had to deal with all the family drama from E's children and her husband.
E had no clothes to take with her to Maggie Valley Nursing home, but some angel named Kim made sure she had some soft comfortable pajamas. She showed a lady with very little hope some compassion and love. She brought E coloring books to try to keep her mind occupied. After E left Haywood for the nursing home, Kim even took her a Big Mac and a chocolate shake. E died shortly after going to Maggie, but she was at peace and knew she was loved.
When I was Kim's patient on the 5th floor, she educated me on my new diagnosis of CHF and gave me all kinds of educational material. She explained to me things to watch out for and when to notify the MD. She treated me and my husband with the highest respect and went out of her way to make sure we were both comfortable during my stay. She kept us updated on the discharge regarding the oxygen delivery we were waiting on. She personally took me out to my vehicle after my oxygen came. She was determined to make sure my oxygen bottle was secured as well as me.
I observed her with the gentleman across the hall and she was as caring, patient, and kind with him as she was with me. This is the kind of nurse that everyone should have. Didn't have any bad nurses during my stay, but she stood above the rest just by being herself. You could tell she liked her job. She made a difference in my opinion of this hospital. I am not from this county but would recommend your hospital to anyone. Thank you.
