December 2013 Honoree
kim nelson, RN, Nurse Clinician
I first became involved with Kim Nelson as the manager of the Hopeful Hearts Program. Kim worked tirelessly to try to get me involved in this program. I was despondent and withdrawn, but her smile and winning personality finally got through to me. Without Kim's encouragement to me and others on this floor, life here at VCU would not be as good as it is. Kim's warm and willing ways to both me and my wife got me involved with an art project. This art project was inspired by Kim Nelson and is dedicated to her.
The Story of Life:
One day a man made of tin had no heart. 1. So he sought out the king of hearts (Dr. K.) 2. Who had access to the tree of life. 3. The king of hearts 4. Harvested a heart from the tree. 5. And gave it to the man of tin. 6. Who was so happy that he had a birthday party at VCU 7.

Thank you, Kim, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
