Kim went to the League of Human Dignity to obtain a walker for a homeless patient returning to the shelter on discharge.
Kim Petersen is an excellent charge nurse for the Med-Surg department. I see her as a hard worker, always very active in her work, yet never too busy to help as needed. Med-Surg unit is an active department, especially for the pastoral department. There are many instances where Kim has gone out of her way for her nurses and for us as we round in the department. Her attitude and friendliness are a joy to work with. She is simply a very hard worker and a DAISY Nurse.

Kim is a Supervisor on Med/Surg/Ortho. Kim has been a certified orthopedic nurse for many years and has recently obtained her ONS chemotherapy certification. Kim is our unit's Orthopedics expert and attends our Joint Replacement Center meetings and is actively involved with our Joint Commission Advanced Certification for Total Knees and Total Hips. Kim has been recognized as a great leader on our unit. She keeps the unit running smoothly by managing bed assignments and making nurse assignments.
Kim was recognized by a physician for keeping her cool and managing 19 discharges and 8 transfers from PCU in one shift. Kim has also been known to help patients have the things they need on discharge. Kim went to the League of Human Dignity to obtain a walker for a homeless patient returning to the shelter on discharge. Kim also participates in our Patient Experience team and completes Leader Rounding during her shift. During Leader Rounding Kim heard a patient say she didn't like the flavor of Gatorade we had at the hospital, so Kim went to the Walgreens down the street to get a patient the Gatorade flavor she like which impressed the patient and family so much that she went out of her way to get the patient what she requested.
Kim has been recognized for excellent teamwork. One example was a confused combative patient on the unit. The patient was striking our staff and refusing treatment. Kim took the time to sit with the patient and was able to give the patient medication. Kim advocated and worked with the physician to get the patient moved to a higher level of care preventing restraints. Kim is a true DAISY Nurse.
