It was hard to believe, but I had a heart attack. While I had no initial "heart injury", by Friday of the same week, I was beginning to deteriorate and felt horrible. I was admitted to PCU where I met Kim. She entered my room on Saturday night and after a quick assessment, and sweetly told me that she felt I was getting worse and was going to call the cardiologist. I assured her that I felt okay, but when she touched my arm and asked me to trust her, I agreed. Within five minutes, I knew that she was right and I could feel myself slipping away. I took my last bit of strength and called my daughter "just so that she knew I loved her". After that, I closed my eyes and just waited. I remember the cardiology provider coming in and talking to me, but I didn't really comprehend what was going on. Kim was right by my side the whole time and ensured the right people were by my bedside. Her sweet and calm voice in my ear reassured me through it all. The entire night Kim was continually in my room reassuring me that I was going to be okay. Her compassion and excellence were amazing! Her interactions with me allowed me to face the future days with confidence.
