Kim was pulled to the unit to work a night shift. It was a very busy time, and one of her five assigned patients was experiencing serious complications. Kim provided exceptional care to this patient, as well as other patients assigned to her. This patient improved over the course of the shift with Kim's careful attention and care. The patient had an older cell phone was very anxious that her phone battery was dead. The patient stated she had all her family member's phone numbers in her cell and would not be able to call them without her cell (contact numbers). Kim, after clocking out from a very busy 12-hour shift, drove to Walmart and purchased a charger for the patient's cell phone. She drove back to the hospital, and brought it to the patient's room, assisting the patient in connecting to charge. The patient was overwhelmed by Kim's excellent care, compassion, and recognizing her anxiety of not being able to reach her family members.
Kim's care of this patient truly exemplifies a DAISY Nurse and our Core Values of Excellence and Compassion.
