Kim Smith ASN, RN is an Oncology RN at Indiana University Health Bloomington. She was nominated by the wife of a patient with cancer as follows:
Kim made sure to explain what was being done and explaining why the blood clots form after chemotherapy drugs have been given. This put our minds at ease that this was part of the progression of the small cell cancer my husband has. She made sure we understood the process to regulate the blood thinners as well. In truth, all of the Oncology staff could and should be awarded the DAISY AWARD for their excellent care and making sure the patient and spouse feel comfortable with what is going on. They are all extremely patient and try to make sure we're at ease with what's taking place with our loved ones.
