This nurse entered our home to tend to my spouse of 65 years. I jotted a brief not after this initial visit “efficient, knowledgeable, and caring”. Four days later after her second visit, I noted “great job”. I quit jotting after that because she ALWAYS excelled. This nurse has been here many times since those first visits, and it has been a genuine pleasure each time. She is always professional and thorough while providing loving and tender care for my spouse’s condition. My spouse has been dealing with a severe case of cellulitis that has led to open wounds, widespread infection, and several hospitalizations but is now mostly recovered. This nurse made a significant contribution over a long period of time to achieve this positive result. My spouse is now 86 and has to deal with dementia and congestive heart failure. These issues made the nurse’s task more challenging, and she rose to the occasion every visit. My spouse and I fell in love with her and we always refer to her as “our favorite nurse”.

What set this nurse apart from her peers? • Every visit she came to the door with a smile (one can tell that even with a mask) and an upbeat attitude. • She tracked my spouse’s med’s like a bird dog and kept everything straight. • She developed a relationship with the PCP’s nurse and frequently collaborated with her about my spouse’s treatment. • She coordinated with specialists (dermatologists and wound doctors) as needed. • She provided a very thorough cleansing and treatment of the problem leg at each visit.

This nurse and I got to chat about various things during her visits and that gave me the opportunity to get to know her on a more personal level. She has become like a member of our family – a cherished member at that. It is with great pleasure that I nominate this nurse for the DAISY Award. I sincerely hope she gets to enjoy the celebration with cinnamon rolls because she is a very special lady and totally deserves to be so honored.
