A patient was admitted to St. Joseph Medical Center during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was greatly debilitated and required the assistance of a ventilator to breathe and was unable to move any of her extremities due to her illness. Since her family could not visit, they made a number of calls to the unit. During one of their calls, the patient's husband asked the nurse if she could describe where his wife was located so that when he drove by with his young child he could tell his baby girl where "Mommy was."
Bella and Kim came up with a unique idea to decorate the patient's window with her first initial. On the initials were hearts with the patient's husband's name, her child's name, and the patient's mother's name. Bella and Kim received a message on the patient's phone a few hours later with a picture of the window decorations form outside the building, with the text "looks incredible."
Bella and Kim are incredibly compassionate nurses who always go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that both patients and families feel valued. Their small gesture made the patient's family feel closer to their loved one, at one of the scariest moments of their lives, without even seeing them face to face. This is just one example of the compassion and kindness these amazing nurses bring to their work.
