Medical Intensive Care Unit Staff Nurse Kim Tha, BSN, RN, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals was honored on August 28 with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses as 50 of her colleagues watched. The award, offered through the DAISY Foundation, is part of Jefferson Nursing’s efforts to recognize the amazing work done by our nurses every day.
Kim was nominated by a nursing colleague who shared a story about Kim and the exceptional care she provided for a recent patient. According to the letter, Kim was caring for a young woman diagnosed HELLP syndrome, a life-threatening obstetric complication. This woman was having a difficult time dealing with the loss of her 20-week pregnancy.
“Kim spent hours with the patient, working with Labor & Delivery, to provide a memory box for this patient,” the nominator wrote. “Two days after the patient was transferred out of our unit, she called looking for Kim. One of Kim's coworkers contacted Kim at home and she came into hospital on her day off to spend time with the patient. Kim is a great nurse, so caring and compassionate. To have Kim as your nurse means having a great patient advocate and a great friend!”
