I have never had a leader who is as intentional as Kim is about valuing the well-being of her team and doing so with such sincerity
Kim joined the Professional Development Team in 2022 and has made a lasting impact in her short time with the team. Kim embodies a desire to support and grow the team she leads with a human centered leadership philosophy. Each individual person is viewed with deep respect and encouraged to grow in areas that embody their unique talents. Kim has made a deep commitment to the growth of the Professional Development Department Team, and the Clinical Education Specialist Team.
Beginning in Fall 2023, Kim launched quarterly retreats combining the two teams with a goal of building lasting relationships, encouraging self-reflection, expanding key skills sets, aligning vision and resources, and sharing of best practices. Through these events, educators within the hospital are provided time and space to grow, expand skill sets, learn with a group and individually, and sample Kim’s specially curated tasty snacks and treats. This space has developed trust and communication between the PD team and the CES teams. This experience has been incredibly impactful for all attendees.
Please see a few quotes shared by Clinical Education Specialists.
“Thank you so much for this wonderful experience! Honestly, with all the changes in the past year or so, as a CES I have been feeling less and less valued. This retreat felt like an investment in me and my personal and professional development. I personally would take learning and networking activities like this over emails of kind words/appreciation, food, or arguments over pay. At the end of the day, in addition to being educators, we are all lifelong learners, and this speaks to me tremendously. Thank you! Please keep it coming”.
“Thank you so much for holding these sessions! It is the single most impactful contributor to my professional development provided at the organizational level. I feel valued when I walk away from this time! Sincerely appreciated!”
Kim has also created an environment within the Professional Development Team where trust, compassion, mutual respect, and continued professional development are held as core values. She consistently role models these attributes in how she leads team meetings, supervises individuals, and aligns the team with a shared mission, vision, and values. Kim is the kind of leader who can strive for excellent team outcomes but also prioritizes and values the relationships she builds individually and amongst the team.
Kim sees the significance in taking time during team meetings to provide space for self-reflection and creates a safe space for team members to be vulnerable with each other. She has led the team through activities to identify individual values as well as limiting beliefs to promote self-growth and ensure that work aligns with core values. She also opens every team meeting or retreat with a mindful moment. This intentional pause before starting meetings allows everyone an opportunity to reset their mind, care for themselves, and become grounded to participate in the rest of the meeting.
I have never had a leader who is as intentional as Kim is about valuing the well-being of her team and doing so with such sincerity. Her leadership has resulted in the Professional Development Department having some of the highest scores in our organizational Team Member Experience Survey.
In the most recent survey from quarter two of 2024 the Professional Development Department overall engagement score was 4.63 out of 5 and the average score of the question of, “My team trusts each other,” was 4.82 out of 5. These results reflect the commitment Kim has towards fostering a cohesive team that respects and works well together.
Growth and community are prioritized, and the teams have seen lasting connections and relationships from Kim’s vision. She role models not only excellence in leadership but extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of healthcare education. Kim shines a light on the uniqueness of the educator role and is committed to the long-term advancement of the profession starting on an individual level.
