Kim has graced many families on the Oncology floor as well as in the ED with her wonderful smile and excellent clinical expertise. Over the past several years, Kim has found a passion for SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner). This is a role that takes a great deal of knowledge and compassion in order to do well. Kim's great bedside manner and laid back personality make her an ideal fit for this role. Because of her SANE training, Kim was able to recognize a child in peril amidst a child trafficking ring. She was made aware of a 16yr old run away in the ED. The provider and police initially dismissed the concerns feeling the patient was being untruthful. Because of Kim's perseverance and continued concerns, the social worker reported the situation to one of the SANE contacts with the FBI who came out to the hospital to interview the patient and strongly felt that what this patient was saying was true and continued an investigation.
Per the FBI, the patient was not lying and unfortunately was a runaway who ended up unknowingly being recruited into a trafficking ring. After the patient was discharged from CHCO for her medical concerns she was escorted back to her home by the FBI for further questioning of her and her family.
Kim did a great job identifying a patient with high safety risks and was able to reach out and obtain all possible resources to keep the patient safe. Kim is a true professional with an amazingly caring heart. She exudes humble expertise and caring community every time she walks through the doors of CHCO.
