Her selflessness resulted in diverting what could have been devastating and in my eyes lifesaving.
I had a cardiac ablation, and Kim was my tending nurse. I suffered a groinal blood leak in the bathroom and came out and informed nurse Kim of the situation. The blood was leaking rapidly, and she needed to summon help from other nurses. While directing the nurses that came in to help, she remained calm and professional, she never panicked even when my leak turned into a spray that got on her uniform.
Nurse Kim assured that my rapid blood loss was controlled before exiting the room. She then went directly to the workstation to document what occurred as to make sure the complete incident was documented correctly. Nurse Kim disregarded that she had been in contact with my blood. Her selflessness resulted in diverting what could have been devastating and in my eyes lifesaving.
After cleaning up, she returned and sat with me to ensure that I was stable enough to be left alone (even though I had family there). She treated me like I was her scared, little child, never mind that I am about 40 years older than her. This nurse has checked all of the values on the DAISY Award paper. CARING, INTEGRITY, ADVOCACY, RESPECT, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND COMPETENCY. Over and above all those, what a credit to TGH's nursing staff. She is the best nurse I have ever had and I have had A LOT.
