We had a patient on our unit who was very anxious about retrieving his belongings from his hotel room, and she, without hesitation, volunteered to drive to the hotel and retrieve his belongings for him.
DAISY Award nominations are meant for nurses who truly go above and beyond to advocate, care for, or just make a patient feel better, feel safe, and make their hospital stay easier. Kim went above and beyond her call of duty. Kim was notified that one of the patients was getting kicked out of the hotel where he was staying. The patient was not only losing his housing but would also be losing all his belongings if they were not retrieved by 11 am. Kim caught wind of this around 9:40 am, and she immediately stepped in and volunteered to gather his belongings at the hotel. Not only did Kim successfully retrieve the patient's belongings, but she also had to enter the hotel room, which was in a state of disarray and completely unlivable. One could imagine the state the room was in and the squalor she dug through to personally bag all of the patients' belongings, put them in her own vehicle, and deliver them to him in the hospital. Unfortunately, as Kim was emptying the contents out of her car, the patient’s walker fell out, scratching the back of her vehicle, but Kim took it with grace and felt obtaining his belongings was more important than the damage caused. This nomination is only one occurrence out of many times Kim goes above and beyond for not only patients but for the team as well. If anyone deserves this Award, it is Kim.

Kim goes above and beyond for our unit. We had a patient on our unit who was very anxious about retrieving his belongings from his hotel room, and she, without hesitation, volunteered to drive to the hotel and retrieve his belongings for him. She is an asset to our team and deserves all the recognition for how amazing she is.

I have the pleasure of sitting next to Kim roughly 2-3 times a week for nearly a year now. Kim is an extraordinary nurse. I have observed Kim's kindness and compassion for our patients, families, and coworkers. Kim is very thorough with her work, whether helping patients or helping her fellow Nurses. Recently, Kim went above and beyond by going to retrieve a patient’s belongings from a local hotel, as the patient had no one to help him. Kim stepped up to the plate and volunteered to help him. Additionally, I have overheard several telephone call conversations she has had with patients when following up after discharge, again witnessing her kindness, compassion, and thoroughness. I have also observed many times where Kim will see something that needs to be done, and she will take the initiative to do it.
