Ms. Gullikson has unilaterally led an effort to treat him and his family with respect, compassion, and integrity. She is a model to her colleagues and to those around her.
Ms. Gullikson epitomizes the MMC values and is an example of compassion, kindness, commitment, dedication, and being an extraordinary human being. When I told my team I wanted to nominate Kim, I no longer needed to write the nomination. Here are some of the things they wrote:

“She is so thoughtful and calm, always thinking about her patients and their care. She is one of the BEST nurses I have ever seen.”

“She comes in on her days off to bring a long-stay patient preferred briefs and pajama pants. When she arrives for her shift there is an instant shift and calmness in the APU. She has an amazing ability to work with complex patients. These are very challenging times in the ED/APU and when Kim is working it seems we can all breathe a little.”

"Ms. Gullikson is one of the most dedicated nurses I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Rare in medicine (or any field) do you find an individual so dedicated to her craft that she is willing to sacrifice herself for her patients. Ms. Gullikson is that type of nurse. She is strong, yet adaptable-an impressive combination. We have had one of the most challenging patients I have ever met in the emergency room for the past several months. During that time, Ms. Gullikson has unilaterally led an effort to treat him and his family with respect, compassion, and integrity. She is a model to her colleagues and to those around her.”

“You have been so wonderful with him (a long-stay patient), reading to him, singing songs, and modeling for other nurses how to provide the best care possible to this patient. We are so fortunate to have you on our team.”

Kim has impressed us all during a rather difficult time in the APU and is such a shining example of what nursing is and the contribution of nursing to the care of some of our most vulnerable patients/community members.

Note: This is Kim's 2nd DAISY Award!
