Kimberly A Taylor, MSN, RN, CNOR
CLC-B was left without a manager, and not much notice beforehand. Without any knowledge of long-term care, Kim Taylor was there to step up and help pull a broken team together.
We had separate “teams/crews”, but she was able to somehow bridge the gap.
Kim took the time to sit with each individual staff member on CLC-B to get to know a little about them and get each of us to share the positives and the negatives we felt on the unit. She listened and, in my opinion, the staff felt connected to her because she showed interest in them and in improving CLC-B.
The staff on CLC-B have always had great teamwork, but when you have a manager who can improve on that teamwork and create one cohesive unit, no matter the shifts you work, in such a short time, that’s a great manager.
Kim exudes positivity. She can listen to the negatives, creating something positive from the conversations. She engages the staff and gets them to think outside the box on how to make a change that benefits everyone.
Supportive is another word I would use to describe Kim. She supported the staff throughout her CLC-B manager experience.
When the staff had questions about their e-performance that was completed by the previous manager, Kim made sure they understood the WHY and helped where she could.
The falls in LTC were a huge topic, but Kim was still supportive of the staff because she could see the amount of work and time each team member put in.
From multiple “deep dives” to HUDDLES and 1:1s, Kim stood by the staff and would let them know that she appreciated them and that she knew they were doing everything they could.
Staff like to feel they have a voice, support, and encouragement. I think this is something that Kim accomplished while being the temporary manager of CLC-B.
I admire her leadership style and feel very fortunate that she accepted a detail to help our unit.
