Kim greeted us with confidence and reassurance that gave us strength in a situation we were not fully prepared for. Kim showed genuine excitement as we learned our daughter would be born earlier than expected.
I am writing to you regarding my maternity experience at Rome Health. My stay lasted for three days. A C-section was originally scheduled, however I presented with contractions days before. My husband and I went to the hospital twice, admitted the second trip with dilation of 5-6cm, and needing urgent surgery. Kim was the first staff member we encountered. As I am sure with every new parent, we were excited and nervous. Kim greeted us with confidence and reassurance that gave us strength in a situation we were not fully prepared for. Kim showed genuine excitement as we learned our daughter would be born earlier than expected. Kim had a calm and helpful approach, explaining the delivering and recovery process in ways we could understand. She used appropriate humor when needed, which I very much appreciated.
Kim cheered as my daughter was born, giving us immediate comfort that our baby girl seemed healthy. With a developmentally disabled sister, I find myself oftentimes having exaggerated worries with a series of questions. Kim listened to our uncertainties without judgement and provided her medical knowledge to alleviate anxieties.
With the rush of my daughter's arrival, both dad and myself were heartbroken to discover we left our phones behind. There was no way to capture the precious moment of meeting her in the operating room. Without hesitation, Kim offered to take pictures to be sent later. We are able to cherish these photos for a lifetime due to Kim’s contribution.
I am employed as a licensed master social worker in the healthcare field. I understand the impact our frontline has been facing in recent times. Staff shortages have become the normal yet this was not recognizable during our interactions with Kim. She left us feeling important and as if we were her only patients. I would go as far as to say this might not have been a typical occurrence, even pre-pandemic. Kim played a vital role in molding our experience and my family will always remember her for that. Her care and attention went above and beyond.
I can only begin to imagine the lives Kim has touched during her many years as a nurse. We are eternally grateful she was a part of our daughter's birth.
