My uncle was in ICU Bed 3 for a few days after he was found unresponsive at home. He has never been a very good patient and refuses to see his doctors. His siblings and wife beg him to go for check-ups but he refuses. Consequently, he has multiple health problems - mainly bad knees, bad feet, skin cancer left untreated, etc. He is a veteran and lives near the VA hospital, and even refuses the services they offer! Kimberly was his nurse when I visited him. My sister and I were extremely impressed by Kim's professionalism, even in a dire situation caring for a patient who won't and can't care for himself. She gently washed his feet, which from years of neglect, are in terrible shape. Luckily, he couldn't curse at her or he would have! He was on a vent and unable to talk. He was groaning at her and us, but she continued in her goal of washing the dry and dead skin from his feet and applying lotion and socks. Kim kept us informed and answered the many questions we had. She was cheerful and encouraging, while we were nervous and afraid he would die. Kim kept her cool and allowed us to talk and communicate with family members by phone. She was steadily working to save my uncle's life. This ICU nurse is #1!
