Nurse Kimberly Johns made us feel at ease by her presence and with introducing herself to us at shift change. My daughter, the patient, was admitted due to stomach ulcers and underwent emergency surgery. Below are specific examples of how Nurse Kim provided exemplary care for my daughter: Nurse Kim realized that the patient’s catheter was removed. She immediately examined her IV fluid bag and asked the patient if she needed to use the bathroom. The patient responded with no, but Nurse Kim insisted that she try. Voila! The patient used the bathroom. She also listened to the patient’s stomach to ensure blood was not pooling because she noticed a little bulge in the patient’s belly. Lastly, I watched Nurse Kim plugging in equipment while on her hands and knees to ensure safety. We had no idea that there was an electrical outlet installed on the bed! Nurse Kim’s mere entrance into the patient’s room was felt with warmth. Once she realized the care required for the patient, she immediately reviewed the patient’s equipment, made adjustments, and recommendations so the patient would be comfortable. Nurse Kim kept us informed about the patient’s low blood count and oxygen levels. She gave her a lung spirometer and communicated with us why it was needed. Throughout the night, Nurse Kim continuously checked on the patient. I cannot write enough about her-other than when her shift was over, we did not want her to go! In closing, during our stay at the hospital, we met with several nurses who provided care. Nurse Kim excelled above them all by simply going the extra mile. She sincerely impacted me and my daughter.
