My daughter was born at a different hospital. We came home 3 days later. The following day we woke up at 4:55 am to every parent's worse nightmare- our baby had died while we were asleep. I started CPR and the medics tried to save her and the ER tried desperately to save her but it was too late. Once she was pronounced dead we were allowed to spend time with her for a few hours before the medical examiner needed to take her. During that time, Kimberly came down from Mother Baby where she works to help us make memories with our daughter. She took pictures, took hand and footprints, took a door impression, and cut me a lock of her hair. She stayed 3 hours past when her shift ended to support me and my family while we began to process this loss. It wasn't her responsibility, there was an ER nurse assigned to us, but she chose to stay. We can never thank her enough for her kindness and compassion during the most difficult day of our entire lives. I am also a nurse and I know how hard what she did for us must have been but she handled it with grace. When it finally came time to hand my daughter over to the medical examiner, Kim helped me wrap her in a blanket and kiss her goodbye. I handed her to Kim and Kim walked her out to the van so that I didn't have to hand her to a stranger. She is the embodiment of a DAISY Nurse.
