A patient was having chest pain and drove himself to the Emergency Room to get checked. The patient was not anticipating being admitted to the ICU. While conversing with her patient the next morning, Kim learned that the patient's dog had spent yesterday afternoon and the entire night in his car in the visitor parking lot. The patient had called all his contacts, but no one could pick up his dog. He didn't tell the nurses because he didn't want to burden them with this. Kim immediately asked for the patient's car keys and reassured him that she would check on his dog.
She called Security for assistance and went to the car. She felt a wave of relief when she saw the dog alive and well although scared. Kim took the dog out, cleaned him as best she could with wipes, since the dog had relieved himself in the car, took him for a walk, and gave him water. She made all the arrangements for the dog to be sent to Broadway Veterinarian Clinic with the patient's permission.
The clinic knew the patient and the dog and agreed to board the dog until his master was well again. The patient was so relieved and grateful to Kim for doing all this for him. I have since nicknamed Kim our dog whisperer since this dog didn't bark or growl at her while she was caring for him. Kim certainly went the extra mile for her patient and his precious pet.
