As I watched Kim push a patient bed from CT to ICU after a Rapid Response (and a long day) in which the patient had a significant decline, I thought to myself...There goes a fantastic nurse and human. She didn't have to help her team transport the patient to and from CT to their new room in ICU, but she did. She not only wanted to help ease the burden of the floor nurse who had several heavy care patients, but she also saw the patient through the whole code white process to ensure that they got the testing they needed and to the correct room in ICU. She was able to give a first-hand account of the rapid response to the ICU nurse and provide excellent continuation of care. Her communication with the hospitalist and staff during this situation was top-notch. Kim always goes above and beyond to ensure patient safety and support staff. I could tell the family appreciated her efforts as well. She is a huge asset to the house supervisor team and the shared governance committee. She involves herself in many activities that improve job satisfaction for staff and the patients she cares for. I am honored to work with Kim and appreciate her flexibility and willingness to go the extra mile.
