I wanted to send you an email about one of your resource nurses who went over and beyond for my daughter. There are several things that were all preventable, however, led my daughter to have to be transferred from Cabarrus to the PICU at Levine's for respiratory distress via MedCenter Air. In the morning a new nurse came on and she introduced herself and she talked to myself and my daughter and started her shift. About 2hrs into her shift, my daughter started to go downhill and required more respiratory support. This Nurse and I talked a few times that morning about how things were going and I was starting to get worried more. Being an ICU nurse here at Cabarrus and seeing too much I told her I feared what was coming next, those fears became all too real when my daughter ended up being intubated by lunchtime. This Nurse worked so hard helping my daughter, then comforting me, and even praying with me while I sat there crying. She didn't get off work until well after 8 pm that night because so much happened so quickly and my daughter had taken a turn for the worse. I helped as much as possible with any care that I could as her mother without overstepping but this Nurse was amazing in updating during the scans, the procedures, checking on me and just being an excellent nurse. I know as resource and travelers we don't get recognition like staff nurses do but I wanted to let you know she is one of the great ones. She came back the next day to check on me and even after my daughter got moved off PICU. Thank you for keeping nurses like her around to care for children like mine.
