This nurse acknowledged the anxiety but felt there was more going on than just anxiety. This nurse, who was a fairly new nurse at the time, took time to listen to the patient. She advocated for her patient.
Dignity- she always shows her patient’s dignity. Like being kind and explaining procedures and care to patients who are intubated & sedated. They probably can’t comprehend her but she still upholds dignity. Integrity. Telling the truth regardless of how it impacts her. Shows compassion, like attending to her patient’s family members' needs. Excellence in caring for post-op patients. Stewarding the role and honor of being a nurse. By simply showing up every day. Even when it’s hard! She’s going to do what needs to be done. She’s going to cross her t’s and dot her i’s. She will be prepared. If the patient won’t be back until 11:30. Her room will be ready by 8! Dignity. She inspires me and reminds me that we can’t get jaded. She reminds me that with all the stress we endure, we have to take breaks. Rest for ourselves so that we may serve our patients.

It did my heart good to see this nurse in action. The things she has accomplished are encouraging. She explained things to me and worked to help me better understand. Her compassion was evident in the way she provided care. Her care was Informative care and kind. This nurse is going to go far – she is an inspiration!

She was the one who found out what was going on with my dad. She took the time to figure it out. A plug – she kept coming in saying “something is wrong”. She got the respiratory therapist and two big plugs came out and we did not have any problems after that. When we were on the 2nd floor she came to visit us. This just meant the world to our family. She was literally a life saver!!

This nurse consistently amazes me and those around him/her. When I received the email, this nurse had been mentioned in a patient letter. I had just witnessed this nurse singing Happy Birthday to a patient’s wife. This nurse is always so caring and full of smiles. She comforts those in her care and in our department. She goes the extra mile, and it is seen and felt every shift. Thank you for your steadfast delivery of compassionate care. I recall a patient this nurse was taking care of. It was a post-surgery patient who was exhibiting a bit of “anxiety.” This nurse acknowledged the anxiety but felt there was more going on than just anxiety. This nurse, who was a fairly new nurse at the time, took time to listen to the patient. She advocated for her patient. She continued to speak up for the patient, and it was realized that the patient had a pneumo. This was so encouraging and inspiring to witness. This is a critical aspect of nursing that we speak for our patients when they cannot speak up. I have also witnessed this nurse taking a nursing student. She is a great teacher. She takes time to educate and share the knowledge she has. The students who have precepted with her have commented on this nurse's calming presence. When I round on patients, this is also what they focus on is her calming presence. TEAM is her focus – she makes a point to jump in and help! She is also Patient-focused. She seeks to put their needs at the center of what she is doing on that shift and in that moment.
