I had an incredibly difficult delivery. With three days on a clear liquid diet and one day on fluid restrictions, Kirstin was there every step of the way to make sure I was taking care of myself. She guided me through labor positioning and got to know both me and my husband. I ended up developing an infection. Kirstin moved quickly to be sure I got antibiotics and continued to advocate for my timely care and delivery. Unfortunately, my baby was born not breathing and rushed to the NICU, and intubated. Kirstin was immediately by my side and directing my husband so he didn’t feel helpless. Kirstin stayed late to call the NICU with us, as I could not get downstairs yet. She sat with us as we called, to make sure we got the information we needed. She did a warm handoff when I went to the postpartum floor, making sure I was attended to and as comfortable as possible. I was readmitted for postpartum preeclampsia two days after my discharge. Kirsten visited me twice to debrief and offer her support.

She’s extremely empathetic and also an amazing nurse. She was incredibly knowledgeable and knew all kinds of techniques to cope with pain and hurry along with labor. I can honestly say that despite what a traumatizing nightmare it was, Kirstin mitigated that trauma. I can only imagine what a mess I’d be if she and Dr. M hadn’t IMMEDIATELY attended to my emotional needs after delivery. She deserves this DAISY Award and many others. We are so grateful for her and I’m sure our baby would be too.
