First, all of the nurses who helped with my mom were great. They all made it easier for her to be here but Kolby really stood out. My mom is 85 and was terrified she’s never go home again. My reassurances did not count for much because I am a teacher, not a nurse. Kolby came in during our last day and made a point of letting her know he would do everything he could to help get her out today. No guarantees, but just the words immediately helped her blood pressure return to normal after being high during her visit. He explained everything he was doing before he did it, which made her more comfortable and less nervous. He didn't treat her like a confused child, the way a lot of nurses have since she became elderly. He treated her like the adult she is, with dignity and without lecture, while maintaining eye contact and speaking directly to her, rather than talking to me about her, which was my favorite thing he did. My mom is German, lots of pride, and just him doing that made her feel important and part of her own treatment and self-care plan. Thank you for giving that gift to my mom. It's the first time either of us had experienced that in years, and it made such a difference. You’re an absolute blessing.
