I had surgery for kidney stone removal. Everything with the procedure went well. After I was taken to recovery is when everything turned bad. I would not wake up in recovery, no matter what they did. Kortney was the Nurse assigned to me. She tried everything she knew to get me awake, but nothing worked. Then Dr. P came in and tried and eventually I came to.

I even joked with Dr. P, then bam…just like that…back into a deep sleep. Another Dr was called in and nothing helped.  They coded me.  After a long period of time, I awoke. Eventually, I was transferred to a room. My wife was present for much of the time up until the code blue. She told me Kortney was dedicated to making sure I was in good condition before she would pass me to the next Nurses.

I awoke a second time and Kortney was still there.  She gave more attention than I ever received from a Nurse in my life, totally beyond the call of duty. She refused to leave my side, even when I told her to take a break. She reasoned that I was changing by the minute and another Nurse would not know where I am in my recovery stage. Eventually, I was given a room and Kortney did not pass me off till she delivered me to my room.

In my opinion, this was past a DAISY Award Standard. This was Hero’s standard. Her dedication and compassion were unbelievable. Imagine this was only me. Look what she does every day of her life for others. I will never forget what she did for me that day.
