Recently, our patient hit the milestone of celebrating 100 days at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He has been supported throughout his stay by his lovely wife. Kortney and an occupational therapist decided to do something special for the patient and his wife. They arranged a special date night for the two to spend time together. They brought a little table, a tablecloth, battery-operated candles, sparkling cider, and flowers in a Mizzou vase (both the patient and wife are Mizzou grads). They ordered take-out from Bar Italia and even brought in a dress shirt for the patient to wear on his date. Kortney and the OT also helped the patient write a sweet letter to his wife for the occasion. They honestly thought of everything and then gave them the time to be a normal couple enjoying a night out like any other couple might do. As Kortney’s leader, it was no surprise to hear that she went above and beyond to make this day special for this patient and his wife. Kortney cares deeply for her patients and families, but she is always humble and would never do this, expecting acknowledgment.
