Her quick action, clinical expertise, and sheer instinct turned a terrifying situation into one of relief and overwhelming gratitude.
We are beyond grateful to nominate Korynne for the DAISY Award. Her care, presence, and lifesaving action during our stay, Mother and Baby, went far beyond anything we could have imagined and quite literally saved our son's life. From the beginning, Korynne stood out. She was our day nurse following the birth of our son, V, and brought with her a wonderful mix of professionalism, warmth, and genuine kindness. She treated us with care and respect, always checking in on E's recovery and gently encouraging us as we took our first steps into parenthood.
I, as a brand-new dad, especially appreciated how patient and encouraging she was when teaching me how to swaddle our baby. But Korynne's impact became something far greater, something we will never forget for the rest of our lives. After the nurses had left us alone with Vincent for the first time, we were still settling in and soaking up the surreal moment of being with our baby. I walked over to the bassinet to pick him up, and what I saw stopped me cold. He was completely purple. I called out to E, "Our baby is purple!" She, still recovering in bed, immediately called the nurses' station, and we both felt frozen in fear. In that moment, we were completely helpless and terrified. What happened next was nothing short of heroic.
Korynne came running into the room. She didn't pause. She didn't ask questions. She just acted. She swept V into her arms, held him in a baby Heimlich position, and gave him several firm pats on the back. Within seconds, a large gush of amniotic fluid came out of his lungs, and just like that, he could breathe again. His color returned, and we could finally breathe again, too. There's no doubt in our minds: Korynne saved our baby's life that day. Her quick action, clinical expertise, and sheer instinct turned a terrifying situation into one of relief and overwhelming gratitude. Even after the crisis, she remained calm and reassuring, helping us understand what had happened and checking in on us emotionally just as much as she checked on V physically. Korynne will forever be part of V's story and ours. Her care was not only exceptional, it was lifesaving. We cannot thank her enough for the grace and courage she showed in a moment of crisis, and for being such a steady, kind presence in one of the most vulnerable and life-changing moments of our lives.
