December 2020 Honoree
Kozi Brunner, RN
Kozi Brunner was nominated by a patient's wife for the empathic care that Brunner delivered when the patient was at the end of his life and his wife was not able to be by his side due to COVID-19 visitor restrictions.
The nominator said Brunner provided in-depth updates and details regarding her husband's care and went above and beyond her expectations. Brunner presented realistic expectations and detailed explanations of her husband's condition and what to expect when he passed away. She stated that Brunner's spirit of caring made her husband's final days more comfortable and made her feel more at ease with the decisions she had to make.
"Kozi’s art of kindness made my darkest day more tolerable," says the nominator.
"I am deeply moved that someone would think what I do is exceptional," says Brunner. "The bedside team I have had the privilege of working with for years has helped make me the nurse I am today. In the past year, we have had to encourage and support each other in a position few understand. There are times when all you can do is offer comfort to the family and hope it brings some peace."
