February 2025 Honoree
Kris Franken, RN, CAPA
I had a rough year with my health: cholecystectomy, appendectomy, endoscopy, lobectomy, and several CT scans and MRIs in between. I will have chemotherapy in the future. Today, I was here for a liver biopsy. I was having some pain, and while Kris was taking care of me, I got emotional. I told her that I had no Christmas tree up and no presents bought, and I was feeling down. She sat and listened to me. She held my hand. She said I should give myself a break this Christmas. When I got back from the biopsy, there were three beautifully lit white ceramic trees on the table in my room! She went to the gift shop and bought them with her own money. I am moved to tears. She cheered me up and calmed me down. Essentially, I’m a stranger to her, but that didn’t matter. She’s an angel.
Thank you, Kris, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
