Krishna, respecting my wishes, suggested applying a heat pack to the baby first, which worked to warm the baby’s temperature and also protected that precious time with my baby at the beginning of her life.
Krishna went above and beyond for me and my baby. I felt so lucky to have her as a nurse. There were more than 10 people assisting with my delivery in the OR, but everyone but Krishna and one other resident left after the baby was born. Krishna, who was brought in when my original nurse was called back to triage, quickly worked to organize the OR and took on multiple roles simultaneously. My husband (a surgery resident) noticed that she even worked as the scrub tech during the delivery. She saw that the Pitocin drip was off, and she immediately corrected this. On top of everything else she was doing, she even found time to make a baby hat with a bow in the OR. When I returned to the Labor & Delivery room, she advocated for me to have skin-to-skin with my baby per my request. A couple of staff wanted to put the baby back in the warmer because she got cold from the OR temperature. Krishna, respecting my wishes, suggested applying a heat pack to the baby first, which worked to warm the baby’s temperature and also protected that precious time with my baby at the beginning of her life. Krishna made sure that I was comfortable at all times. When I asked for apple juice, she checked multiple refrigerators to find it. Krishna took the time to review postpartum warning signs of pre-eclampsia with me. She was a clear communicator, and she used the teach-back method to ensure that I comprehended the information she delivered. By far, Krishna is the best nurse I’ve ever had. She deserves a Florence Nightingale Medal and ALL of the accolades! I remember shouting "Thank you!" to her as I was being wheeled away to my postpartum room, but that doesn't seem sufficient!
