Krista has proven herself to be a natural leader in the Community Living Center. Other staff can be seen constantly looking to Krista for clinical skill advice as well as relational tactics with our Veterans. Krista takes the time with our Veterans to truly get to know them on a "one to one" personal level. She goes above and beyond her duties, taking time to educate other staff, other departments regarding processes and if she does not understand or knows ways to improve things on the unit, she takes the initiative to create positive change, not just for our Veterans but for staff as well.
We have one Veteran who due to his medical condition is unable to write or express himself clearly. Krista took time to carefully handwrite a letter in the Veteran's first-person words to his closest relative. The Veteran's relative called me in tears with words of gratitude to "whoever was able to capture the words of my brother, it was like he was writing, like talking right to me."
Not every nurse will take the time to show that kind of dedication and love, Krista will, guaranteed.
