I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Morphea Scleroderma. You can well imagine the emotional devastation of getting this diagnosis. I was referred to Henry Ford Hospital for specialized light treatment, which I was told is rare in the medical facilities in Michigan. After waiting six months to get on the schedule for UVA light treatments, I encountered 3 nurses whose schedules rotated during my 3 days-a-week treatment. About two months into treatment, Kristal Sheffer, RN, was the attending nurse to replace one of the nurses who had taken vacation time. Kristal stands out as one of the kindest people I have ever met in her profession. She is professional, compassionate, and knowledgeable. She has been patient and has taken the time to explain various aspects of my treatment which has played a significant role in helping me cope with this diagnosis. She also initiated helping get lotion on my back after light therapy, which has played a major part in my healing process and following the light procedures. Kristal is an EXTRAORDINARY NURSE who deserves to be recognized for her outstanding nursing skills, patient advocacy, and humanitarianism. I am so pleased to be able to have Kristal in the regular rotation of nurses for my treatments.
