For the past several years, I have been in continuous awe of the kind of nurse and person Kristen is. She goes above and beyond for her patients daily, always choosing to be positive, see the best in people, and support her coworkers. Kristen's smile and outlook are a quick remedy to a challenging shift, and her peers all know that anything the day brings can be overcome if she is on their team. She is always willing to take on orientating new hires, precepting students, and everything in between. On our floor, we can have patients for extended periods, and it is not uncommon to see the same patients for several months. One of our current patients in this situation has come to love having Kristen as a nurse, and it always improves her mood when this is the case. Recently, Kristen purchased pajamas for this patient as she did not have any personal clothes in the hospital. Kristen is also starting conversations in the unit about having a designated area for donated items and clothes for these long-term patients. This is just one example of the kind of nurse Kristen is and how she is always going out of her way to care for her patients on all levels. There is no one more deserving of this award than Kristen. Her compassion and work ethic can be seen every day by patients and staff alike.
