From day one of our daughter's arrival on the NICU, Nurse Kristen Landis has with extraordinary kindness, patience, and understanding- educated and informed my wife and me about the feeding and caring of our newborn baby girl (L). When we arrived at the unit, L was feeding at regular intervals, but only latching for approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute at a time. Being completely new parents, my wife and I mistakenly thought this was normal and all that L required at that time. We were very wrong indeed! Immediately upon realizing what was happening Nurse Kristen kindly explained to us both the procedure and requirements of ensuring that baby L obtained a proper "latch" and she then suckled for 30 minutes starting afterward. Since that feeding while on NICU and continuously afterward, Nurse Kristen has consistently demonstrated her competence for educating new parents about any questions or concerns that either my wife or I had, all while maintaining a wonderfully positive and professional demeanor, and without ever being condescending or patronizing to either of us. Nurse Kristen has been an absolute godsend to my wife and me!! Her knowledge combined with her obviously inherently good character and positive outlook makes her without reservation one of the kindest and most intelligent nurses I have ever met. Nurse Kristen answered every question and addressed every concern we had any time that she was on the unit, all the white tending to several other newborn babies, and made it look easy and effortless. Suffice it to say that if it were possible, my wife and I would nominate Kristen for the Nobel Prize. That's how highly we regard her. She has been truly remarkable ad will forever be credited with arming us with the confidence and the knowledge necessary to care for our baby girl. Thank you, Nurse Kristen!!
