Kristen Haats was nominated by a co-worker who recognized her passion for nursing and providing exceptional, high-quality care during her career in many departments across the organization.
Haats showed exceptional compassion to a pediatric trauma patient, according to her nominator. The child was scared and inconsolable. Haats talked calmly to the child and talked her through the various evaluations and scans. Once they were completed, Haats immediately picked up the child, held her close, and rocked her to sleep. Haats was dressed in lead, a gown, and all of the additional personal protective equipment required, and it was hot. Others offered to hold the child to allow Haats to shed layers, but she happily said: "I'm fine. She's worth it."
"It was heartwarming and reassuring that as a mother, daughter, sister, wife, I know that if I'm ever unable to comfort my child or loved one in the Emergency Department, there are nurses like Kristen who are there," says the nominator.
