Kristen makes everyone feel welcome and is also a great teacher in the recess trauma room.
Kristen is a lead nurse on midnights who is always positive and is one of the hardest-working people I know. All the nurses in the Emergency Department work so hard and give everything they have every time they walk through the doors of the Detroit Medical Center, but Kristen is exceptional.
On this particular day, there were 71 patients in the ED when we arrived at 7 pm and by 9:30 pm there were 54. Kristen opens up ARC along with a doctor and takes up to 30 patients on her own; along with being the lead, this is something she does on each and every shift she works. She always gives each and every patient her undivided attention and shows each and every patient how much everyone at the DMC cares and provides them with the best care possible. Even though the wait might be long, she explains to be patient and they will have their turn.
Kristen makes everyone feel welcome and is also a great teacher in the recess trauma room. She gives support and makes you want to work as hard as she does and give it your all to give the best patient care possible at all times. Kristen is one of only a handful of nurses left on the night shift in the Emergency Department at Detroit Receiving Hospital.
When you meet Kristen, you instantly notice her energy. She is such a light in what can be a dark place for so many. Kristen gives the gift of her healing presence to each person she is with. This, along with her strength, expertise, and perseverance in clinical skills gives her a unique opportunity to touch people as they are, whole beings.
We know that patients experience health emergencies and traumas in more than just their physical bodies. It is Kristen’s recognition of their mind and spirit along with the body that makes her such a valuable healer and nurse. In a recent conversation with one of our leaders, Kristen relayed her concerns about being one of only a few nurses left on the night shift in the ED. In that, she professed her love and dedication to our community, and even if she is the last nurse standing, she will remain standing in support of our patients!
