Kristen gave me report about an extremely neglected patient. I was very distraught about the level of neglect, but due to Kristen's passion for her patients, I can see that she went above and beyond. The patient was difficult due to a high level of anxiety, so CT scans, IVs, and catheters were all complete by my time of arrival. I was told that Kristen spent most of her time in that patient's room. She was very detailed when giving report. Not only detailed but you could see the passion in Kristen's eyes on how sad she was for this individual. Poor hygiene and malnutrition, this patient knew she was now being well cared for. I could tell upon arrival and even after taking report. She was very neglected while living in her home. Kristen was with her basically as a 1-1 nurse while we cared for this patient for six or more hours. She was very sick and needed multiple blood transfusions and a bed in our ICU. We held this patient for over six hours due to our hospitalists being at capacity. She also had a very bad infestation of bed bugs to the point where we could see multiple bugs crawling in every single place of the patient's body. Kristen took the best care of this elderly lady as if it was her own family member. Kristen was very patient and did the best she could to explain to her what was going on. Due to the patient living in a neglected environment she had extreme anxiety during her ER visit. Kristen stayed in her room trying to calm her in the most angelic way. Thank you, Kristen, for being such a compassionate nurse. You are the best.
