I had very bad anxiety about the procedure, even though this was my third C-section. I met Kristen as soon as her shift began, which was right before my surgery time. I cannot say enough good things about her. Her personality fit perfectly with the type of nurse I needed: sensitive and caring, yet fun and determined to make my experience memorable. She reviewed my past health information, including my history of cancer after the birth of my second child, and used that to better care for me: understanding that every small detail mattered to make this birth something I will never forget (in a good way for once). During the spinal, she held me so close to her, almost nose-to-nose, reassuring me that everything would be okay. She talked me through every single thing to expect as it was happening and didn't leave my side. After birth, as I was recovering, Kristen helped me achieve the type of connection I wanted with my baby along with the infant nurse, ensuring I had skin-to-skin regardless of the fact that I had a C-section (both of my other babies were taken away because I needed to "recover" and I felt like I was never able to properly bond). This time, I was able to form a skin-to-skin bond as well as a breastfeeding bond immediately. Kristen constantly checked with my husband and me during that time and was there for anything we needed, without smothering, which is a very difficult balance to achieve. I really want her to know that without her, my experience would not be as wonderful as it was. I will never forget her and the amazing care she provided.
