But Kristen didn't stop there. She then reached out again to Cath Lab and was able to convince them that they may need to take him down to check for clots under fluoroscopy.
Kristen went above and beyond to help ease my patient’s way. I was caring for a patient admitted for sepsis from an unknown source and gastric cancer. He has an implanted port on the right chest where he would have chemotherapy through. He came in for sepsis like symptoms and was thought that perhaps the port was the source of infection and has grown clots. I called the PICC team just to see what they had in mind, and that's when Kristen answered and went above and beyond. I informed her of the situation, and she said she'd look into the situation and suggested obtaining an X-ray to assess placement in the meantime, which I did. Moments later, she called me and told me that she had called Cath Lab to investigate further using her resources. Knowing she may not know all the answers, she found that dwelling TPA may help, so she reached out to the Dr and got the order. When attempted to dwell the TPA the patient became uncomfortable with the idea and inevitably refused the procedure. But Kristen didn't stop there. She then reached out again to Cath Lab and was able to convince them that they may need to take him down to check for clots under fluoroscopy. She then reached out to a radiologist and even got the patient scheduled for the procedure the very next morning. I'd like to nominate Kristen for her dedication, relentlessness, and going out of her way, above and beyond, to ease this patient’s way!
