I could write a novel detailing how Kristi is an advocate for her patients and puts herself in each of their shoes to determine what they might need while at the hospital and when they leave. She represents each of Mount Carmel's Core Values; reverence, commitment to those who are poor, justice, stewardship, and integrity.
There is one particular family, however - it wasn't a giant grand gesture, but a small moment of compassion that resonated with an entire family and made them grateful to be in Kristi's care.
One morning there was a note left for me the night before asking me to call a man and he left his business card. I called first thing, not knowing what to expect. This gentleman was a trusted family friend of one of our patients. He told a story of how Kristi had been caring for an elderly woman who was hospitalized for chest pain and was undergoing a cardiac workup. The woman was taken for testing and Kristi stayed in the room with her elderly husband. The husband was upset and tearful and said that his wife was his whole life. She held his hand and explained that is why his wife was here, so we could make sure that she was well taken care of. The man told her that he was sure she had more important things to do. Kristi told him that right now, there was no one more important than him.
